This book was fantastic. I was highly invested in Charlie’s story and spent a lot of the time absolutely raging on her behalf. Depriving a deaf child of sign language whether they are implanted or not is beyond cruel. I wanted to throw her awful mother off of a bridge.
The story itself was excellent, but I also really enjoyed the inclusion of Deaf culture & history (some I had never heard before!), ASL & BASL, and sign language grammar spliced between a lot of the chapters. True Biz is a great way to introduce yourself to Deaf culture and sign language through a work of (mostly) fiction. Read it - then start practicing! 🤟🏻
