Would heartily recommend to fantasy readers, particularly Harry Potter fans looking for more dragons and more diverse representation. The interweaving of indigenous mindsets and cultural traits against a colonialist fantasy/magical boarding school backdrop was immersive and refreshing. This is a honker, and I wish I was able to dedicate more time and focus to the audiobook for longer listening sessions to catch even more details. I liked how the queer representation felt natural and authentic. The narration of the audiobook was well-done, if a little distracting with so many voices and accents. I might have enjoyed this one more as text, and am intrigued by the sequel!
