adventurous fast-paced

Bittersweet and engaging conclusions for the arcs of the three characters I cared the most about: Liriel, Fyodor, and Shatki. Many of the new characters were superfluous if you are someone who isn't a walking FR encyclopedia. The biggest exception to this would be learning more about Rashemen's magic and culture. I thought Zofia's character was touching, especially in light of the book's dedication to the author's own grandmother. Pacing got WILD again near the end (so much happens in the last 10%. Like, a LOT), but that's par for the course at this point.

Worldbuilding-wise, the lore around the Lolthites, the Eilistraeeans, and the Rashemi remains the strongest addition to the universe overall and I maintain that it was important a woman was in charge of writing about the dnd matriarchies for a change.

(Oh Liriel, I hope you run into your cousin* someday after she lands on the surface late next century. I imagine you will have a lot to talk about. It's been an absolute delight meeting you.

*it's not official she's Minthara's first cousin, but it's MY headcanon.)
