Dear Reader: The Comfort and Joy of Books by Cathy Rentzenbrink

3.0

Reread this after hearing part of it as an audiobook. Still the same issues outlined below. Not enough emphasis on the 'Reader' and books and too centred on the author's musings on her life. This was probably the reason for writing the book but it certainly did't improve the reading experience.

I was interested to read this on the back of reviews and descriptions of content. Started out well and I enjoyed the early chapters covering the author’s increasing fascination with reading and books. I liked the short paragraph descriptions of the books she rated. You had to be moved by the loss of her brother at such a young age. I did, however, begin to find the autobiographical content about her rise through the different tiers of book selling wearisome and at times a little ‘rose tinted’ and naively delivered.
