The Long Run: A New York City Firefighter's Triumphant Comeback from Crash Victim to Elite Ath Lete
by Matt Long, Charles Butler
I feel like a jerk for not giving this a higher rating, but it is what it is. I was familiar with Matt's story after reading a magazine article on him a few years ago, and then an excerpt from this book. The story itself is just an amazing tale of overcoming the odds and digging deep to reach your goal - as well as one of how a community came together around him. However, the writing and editing were severely lacking here. If you want a better telling of the story, look up "Matt Long's Second Life" by Charles Butler, via Runners' World. Butler is a co-author of the book, too, but I think switching to the first person was a big mistake. To put it plainly, Matt is not that likable.
