The Free
by K. Webster
I really enjoyed this book, but just not as much as The Wild. I think mostly because The Wild was so unique, and I had never read something that taboo.
I liked Atticus when he was introduced in the previous book. He ends up helping Eve out for a few years since her family is dead and she lives out in the wild by herself. Her history is tragic and brutal. She was a product of incest and also forced to have sex with her father and brother's. She gets badly wounded by a bear, so Atticus takes her to his home closer to the city to help her heal and recover.
Eve trusts Atticus and wants him. Atticus fights his attraction to Eve for a long time in this book since he thought she was 16. Eve is so feisty and goes after what she wants. She has been through so much, and it was sweet to see how Atticus wanted to take care of her. She discovered things we all take for granted. Her love of coffee, peanut butter, and the show Friends (particularly Monica and Chandler) were adorable.
Of course, Atticus can't control his attraction or feelings, and they end up in a sexual relationship. Their relationship went deeper, and they really fell in love. The reveal happened in the last third of the book to show how this was a taboo romance. That's when things get complicated and the third act conflict happens.
This book was so sweet, and I loved how possessive they both were with each other. It was great seeing Reed and Devon again, and I can't wait to read their kids' romance in The Untamed.
