Penelope in Retrograde by Brooke Abrams

medium-paced

4.0

I wasn't sure how to rate this one.  On the one hand, there were aspects of the book I found unappealing.  Penelope begins the book, in my view, as a not-so-likeable character.  The kind of person who creates drama while feeling the victim, who sees herself as self-made based on a few independent gestures against a background of massive privilege.  The side characters find her to be amazing (why?).  But there are other elements.  The ex-husband is interesting and well-drawn.  Penelope's character develops.  The story arc is well done.  So 4 stars.  The world needs more Thanksgiving books and I'm glad I found this one.
