Forever Evil by Geoff Johns

I have to admit that I'm way behind in my New 52 reading so this was a bit of a confusing read for me.
In Forever Evil, an evil version of the Justice League known as the Crime Syndicate conquers Earth and takes out our own Justice League. The defeat of the superheroes that Earth is used to relying on means that some rather unlikely "heroes" have to come to the rescue, led by none other than super/evil genius Lex Luthor. Luthor unites other villains who have no desire to live under the heel of the Crime Syndicate as well as the few remaining heroes that have yet to be subdued (including, of course, Batman) and takes the fight to the new supervillains in a battle for the Earth.
I'm generally a fan of Geoff Johns and despite my confusion with parts of the story (not sure if they're plot holes or are just explained in New 52 stories that I haven't gotten to yet), it was a pretty entertaining story. I enjoyed getting to see more of Luthor who becomes a bit more nuanced as an anti-hero than I'm generally used to seeing him. The interactions between him and Batman were particularly interesting. As a hardcore fan of Bats, I loved that he was one of the few heroes (and the only JLA member) who managed to escape the trap. It seemed so typically Batman, particularly his back-up plan for dealing with the evil JLA members.
I think if I'd been caught up on New 52 before reading this, I would've been a bigger fan. As it is, I can really only recommend it as an interesting twist on having the villains as heroes and an entertaining story in general.
