"Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man."

The above quote is possibly the best thing to come out of this book. Don't get me wrong, the absolute death grip that Olive and Adam have on me is incredible. While I love most of the predictable turn of events and the immense amount of tropes, there are some things that I wish could change or be outright omitted.

In the beginning when Olive is talking about her wealth, or rather lack there of, I found it juvenile, cringey, and very reminiscent of a 2014 fan-fiction. I am absolutely tired of authors making being poor/broke a personality trait. There's a big difference between being factually poor and being the "quirky girl who has no money". This is a personal pet peeve and others might not feel this strongly about it. To each their own. Another pet peeve that was extremely prominent in this book is the fact that
Olive had to take several moments to even begin to talk about her mom and whenever she did, she became teary-eyed. Like girl, come on. She died 10 years ago. Everyone handles grief differently and I understand that but 10 years? I feel like at that point you should be able to say "My mom died of cancer so that's why I want to find the cure to it" without having to excuse yourself for crying every single godforsaken time!

I do love the focus on women in STEM, especially BIPOC women. I wish we could've seen Olive support Anh in those endeavors. Speaking of Anh, while I love her to death, I found her extremely cheesy along with Malcolm. Take that as you will.

I did not like that it took 2 hours for Olive to get over her sexual assault but she can't talk about her mom crying. Is it to much to ask to see Olive struggle (for real) with the mental impact an assault causes?

Now, for the time everyone has been waiting for...drumroll please. The sex scene! The chapter and a half was not nearly enough . It was hot, but I am but a simple whore who just needed more. I feel like the epilogue could have been a place to add another sex scene as new real lovers.
Adam was absolutely mouthwatering when his hard exterior melted away and he was just as needy as Olive, maybe even more. Very nice, however, what is not nice is the line about Adam sucking her entire boob into his mouth... I had to hold the book away from me because the second hand embarrassment was real.

The saving grace was Adam holding Tom Benton by the throat, promising him that he would kill him because of what he did to Olive. My favorite moment by far.

Even though I have a few problems with this book, it still threw me over its shoulder and made me its bitch. I definitely think it's worth a read, but the only way I would re-read it is going back to my favorite parts. Still, I am happy for Ali Hazelwood turning an AU Reylo fan-fiction into a published book.
