Eyes Guts Throat Bones by Moïra Fowley-Doyle

4.0

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I picked up this book, lets face it, on the cover art and title alone. I knew nothing of Fowleys work or what the book contained - I thought it would be a dark and twisty novel, but was delighted when I found out, it's a collection of the dark, twisty and beautiful.

As with most collections, some fell a little flat for me. But that's normal, collections are varied pieces of work and usually fall into different genres through out the book, which means most people won't like every single story throughout.

Most of these stories stunned me, the mixture of beautiful, poetic language, merged with the raw and savage descriptions worked perfectly. Bizarre and horrific stories took me on a journey and had me invested in characters I'd known for only 2 pages; terrified of these powerful women who are enticing and reckless but also in awe of them all.

With stunning metaphors throughout - "Her smile was a slice of lightning" - and the ability to make statements about important issues, Fowley weaves a web of beautifully complex, raw and at times, savage stories.

Plots were immoral and important, it was rough and totally real. There are face swaps and morally grey characters, there is the ability to become completely immersed and yet totally lost at the same time. This world that Fowley created is truly undeniable, for her first 'adult' work I was absolutely blown away, this book made me want to read her other works and see where else I might end up.
