Into the Dying Light by Katy Rose Pool

5.0

It breaks my heart that this series has come to an end. It is one of my favourite trilogies ever and I will always hold it close to my heart. The series was written with so much heart and power, that I’m struggling with how to put it all into words. It’s a perfect finale, and I wish I had time to read it from the start again.

This series has always been strongest in its characters, and each of them shine here. Hassan coming to terms with responsibility is powerful. Ephyra learning what it will cost to save the world is wrenching. Jude and Anton fighting to save each other creates the most beautiful love story I’ve ever imagined. Beru wrestling with the god inside her created some truly memorable chapters. I love each character, and even side characters were given arcs and depth and emotional growth.

The story focuses on emotional connections and the journey. The best moments of this book were characters interacting with each other. But the plot itself was filled with action, tension, drama, twists, and sacrifices.

As always, the world building is intricate and detailed, the prose finely crafted. Katy Rose Pool has a stellar voice and writing style that turn words into magic.

It is a crime that this epic, emotional, and complex series is not on everyone’s shelf. It is sweeping, majestic, and filled with characters who will sink into your heart and stay there forever.
