Meaty by Samantha Irby
5.0

I LOVE Sam Irby's writing. I read her writing for the first time last year, when I read her book wow, no thank you. I listened along with the audiobook, which is read by the author. I listened to the audiobook of meaty, too, and I think it adds a lot to the story. When an author is the one reading their own story, there's something so cool and full-circle about that, especially when it's something like this: personal, nonfiction essays.

I really enjoyed this book! Sam Irby's perspective on life is interesting and I love it. She's also just fucking hilarious. I loved hearing all her hot takes and the reasons why she makes some of the choices she does. I like the way she talked about tragic things that have happened in her life, and the effect those things have had on her as a person. She keeps it real. She also has a lot of recipes that are great for avoiding diarrhea. She could write a whole diarrhea cookbook and I'd read it, especially if she made it an audiobook. There were so many fire quotes in this book, so I'll share some of those below. This is a really great book by a really great and hilarious person, and I highly recommend.

“I’m just allergic to assholes. Man, I’m so relieved. And so is my asshole.”
“Two years ago, after he finished scraping barnacles off the sides of my underused cervix,”
“I am excited because I’m 33 years old, and the idea of a man in my life totally bores me.”
“3 cups pineapple juice. If you juice a pineapple yourself, never talk to me again. 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice. This I can do. 2 Tablespoons cranberry juice. Save the rest for your next UTI.”

Good stuff! Funny stuff! Real stuff! Read it!
