gorgeous writing with so many trailing, compounding subordinate clauses; no assertion is final, every thought tentative and reconsidered. it encapsulates everything the book is really about: twenty-something growing pains, dissatisfaction with the status quo, utopia building but the utter courage it takes to pursue that alternate way of living - and the acquiescence that pursuit commands from everyone around you. it all feels like it’s building up to a crescendo which never really pays off, but it still all felt very sharp and zeitgeisty for the current young adult experience, and i enjoyed spending a long lakeside weekend with this complicated group of uni friends
