The first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy. For this dark academia-esque fantasy type world, it is built beautifully and intricately, ornate details of the vastness of the world presented wonderfully in the passages.

It starts off slow, but the pay off towards the middle and end of the book is amazing, especially with the whole arc regarding the polar bear, Iorek, who is a loveable and stoic protector.

So much more is left uncovered that it leaves me reeling for more. A beautiful fantasy book.
