idathomasdotter 's review for:
Winter
by Ali Smith
Ali Smith doesn’t write with words, she writes with imagery and poetic concepts yet her sentences are short and to the point. There is a dry humour that soaks up the dark comedic sometimes tragic scenes and makes them roll effortlessly off the page. The rules of time and space don’t always apply in the scenes, nor in the narrative. But everything still feels perfectly linear. There is understated wit and sweetness on the surface, with an undercurrent of sharp, political and existential observation.
Ali Smith is my new obsession. This might be one of the best book I’ve ever read in English.
