For what it is, it is a perfect example of itself. Pulpy and noirish and modern. While the cast was descriptively diverse, they were all the same character in different skin suits, if that makes any sense. So I marked this as not diverse cast of characters.
I did a buddy read of this book which can be seen here. My comments in that buddy read include a lot of "saw that coming" and "figured". The puns are amazing, the signposting is subtle but detectable, hence how I could have seen the plot twists coming, and did I mention the puns are amazing?
