The Late Show by Michael Connelly
3.0

3.5 stars

I was slow to board the Michael Connelly train, having only recently read any of his Bosch novels after seeing the t.v. series.
Rather than waiting to get through all his previous books first, I decided to read The Late Show as it introduced a new protagonist. I'm super glad I did. Renee Ballard is great. I really enjoyed her as a narrator, probably in no small way because her best friend is her dog, and I love a doggo as a character. She also rings true as a character for me, and has an intriguing story outside of her job, I love that her homelife is a bit different.
Connelly is a great story teller, and a very easy writer to read. He brings an authenticity that you just don't get from lots of other crime writers. I can't wait to start wading through his back catalogue and eagerly await the next installment in the Renee Ballard series.
