Heart of the Sun Warrior by Sue Lynn Tan

5.0

4.8 (rounded up to 5) out of 5 stars.

This book has bested previous reads on making me cry the most. I had to step back to breathe during some parts because I was just- vastly overwhelmed with emotions.
Sue Lynn Tan is an author that I found through other author recommendations. Since ‘Daughter of the Moon Goddess’, I knew that this duology would wreck me because she had such a way with writing, I always felt so much. She created this entirely immersive and beautiful world, giving flawed and human characters life that I was actually learning to heal my own heartache with them.
The Celestial Kingdom series was a read that’s just- engrained into my heart and bones. I remember when I first heard of the idea behind the first book, and I don’t think I could have ever imagined it wrapping up the way it had. With characters that lost, loved, yearned, ebbed and flowed, Sue Lynn created this lovely series that felt vastly relatable despite its fantasy and Chinese mythology base. I felt the pain and grief of the characters since the first chapter up until the end. I shed tears with them and felt like I traveled through their battles right alongside them.
‘Heart of the Sun Warrior’ was an amazingly done ending to a series unlike I could’ve ever imagined. I really do just want to thank Sue Lynn Tan for creating something that genuinely had a larger effect on me than I could’ve thought. When I saw the book early released on shelves, I had excitedly dragged my sister over to see it, eyes wide and heart just racing at the beauty of it before I even knew what was in store for me. Suffice to say that this easily became one of my favorite duologies and I really can’t wait for whatever Sue Lynn has planned next.
