The general premise of this book was really good but I felt like the way the story was told didn’t work for me. I didn’t feel connected to any of the characters almost half way in and I kept zoning out because it felt like a PBS documentary instead of a cool magical realism/ Jungle Cruise/ El Dorado story. I was really disappointed and have a lot of Allende’s works on my list of books to eventually read. I’ll try more of her work but it makes me more hesitant to pick another one up.
