Little Bee by Chris Cleave

Interesting storyline that pushes one to consider the relevant problem concerning immigration and borders. Switching from the immigrants perspective to a born and raised English woman, one can clearly see the differences, but in particular the similarities between the two. Next to this, the whole story evolves around one horrible experience the two women share, adding mystique and intrigue to the plot.

I had trouble getting into the story at first. What I dislike especially, is the editors letter before the book starts. The whole cover is dedicated to telling us how life-changing this book is going to be, how wonderful it is, and how they don't want to give away anything because it wouldn't do justice to the story. Together with the editors letter, it just felt as if they were trying to compensate for something. If they really wanted to let the book speak for itself, they easily could've done that without saying the same thing in a bunch of different ways on the cover and the first couple of pages of the book.
