Entertaining start to a new series

I really enjoyed this book and the introduction of Gabe and Josh as well as the secondary characters in their world. The mystery is intriguing and the red herrings are well done. There are two big downsides that I found annoying while I was reading, hence the four star review. First, the "will they or won't they" drags on for too long and the hurdles that Josh throws up become annoying. Secondly, there are several references to Josh's past experiences which we are led to believe cause him to be so reticent but we are never given any more information. It annoys me to no end when authors throw things and then just leave them there. As for the resolution to the murder mystery it was only half satisfying...it made sense for one victim but not really for the other.

Overall a very good book and I'll keep reading the series. Strongly encourage you to read the short story prequel on the author's website first as a lot of what happens here will be clearer.
