Broken Angels by Richard K. Morgan
3.0
I didn't love this. It appreciate the twistiness of the plot, but the ideas felt stale, perhaps because much speculative fiction ink has been spilled by brilliant minds on the topic of war and the cheapness of soldiers. I did enjoy the scenes during which Kovacs and his team explore the Mars spaceship, but that was the highlight for me. It might be Richard K. Morgan's writing, but I never connect with his characters. I think that it's difficult for him to walk the line of detachment to illustrate the absurdity of war and the norm of disconnectedness when people have "sleeves" instead of bodies, and creating characters with whom the reader empathizes.
