The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding: Completely Revised and Updated 8th Edition by La Leche League International
4.0
I gave this book 4 stars even though I didn't finish it, because everything I read is definitely 4-star material.
This book was with me throughout my breastfeeding journey with my son, from those first days when I read it during middle-of-the-night feedings to the years later when the chapter on weaning suddenly became relevant. Although my breastfeeding journey is not yet done, I think I've gotten everything out of this book that I need to. The whole last section is about "special circumstances" and "troubleshooting" that this late into the game I can feel pretty confident I'm not going to use.
Still, this book's utter comprehensiveness is what makes it the best breastfeeding book out there, in my opinion. (No, I didn't read them all or even close, but if you have this one, you don't have to go much farther). Like all LLL books, it can come across a bit heavy-handed at times, but you will find a lot of comfort and affirmation here if your parenting philosophies generally align with theirs, which mine do. This is a great reference book that dips into pretty much all aspects of breastfeeding, no matter what your situation, with lots of resources to dive deeper into any issue you made need to. (It was my first LLL book, and I went on to read four more. But this is the only one you really need -- this has the relevant information, the others I just read for affirmation of my own choices.)
