Bound by the Past
by Cora Reilly
*3.5*
I really loved how much Valentina and Dante have grown from bound by duty, they have really good development and being completely honest they're my favorite couple and family of this series, my problem with this book isn't them or Dante because in fact I loved him more here and I dare to say he's the only smart capo Cora has written even if Remo is my favorite.
I found a lot of problems here:
- the first one is how repetitive the books are getting with the 463262 flashbacks scenes, trust me they're not necessary and we have read about those scenes too many times to count + the way Cora writes them makes the flashbacks feel rushed and forced and sometimes is too difficult to empathize with the characters in those moments.
I know it must be hard to create a different plot for so many books, but I really want something different for the upcoming books
- LUCARIA, I honestly don't like this couple they're the equivalent of Michael and rika from corrupt, but in a mafia setting, this is basically a complaint about all her books but I found unnecessary how much she has to remind us how Luca and Aria are "saints" to the point of painting her other characters in a bad light for it.
I mean the whole Orazio thing? a shit show to show how good Luca is, it's getting annoying
- the beta readers, again not about the book, but more about the whole series, this book was weird structured and I get lost a couple of times, plus there are spelling mistakes which is weird considering Cora is already a big author.
- the other books we are getting that are going to happen in the same timeline... do we really have to read all of those events again? also, I think some of them are completely unnecessary when she already shows us how the relationships happened
my 3.5 stars are entirely for the family moments, I loved every second of it and I prefer to read 500 pages about them being together than anything else that happened here.
