Cryptid eat, pray, love. Great imagery and atmospher of dred, but feels very gross about issues of racism. It was hard for me to remember that the story was set in modern times as everyone, even the main character, seem to have a 19th century understanding of genetics. Also very much a story about noble savages being connected to nature and such, but also, they can be bad and dumb too. The more I think about the second half of the book the more icky I feel about it.
