There was something over the top and something lacking with this story at the same time. The writing was somehow pretentious in trying to give some depth to a story that had all the ingredients to achieve something bigger than this. This is an exercise of a novel that wanted a bit too much, a set piece that worked more as an idea than in its execution. 
Not a bad book though, not an uninteresting story, so give it a go, if the description sounds interesting to you.
