this was a really refreshing, slightly mysterious book based around the growing friendship between head girl Frances and quiet, enigmatic Aled. unlike the majority of YA novels, romance was not a focus, but instead the main themes were friendship, not fitting in, creative passions and how the two main characters' lives were intertwined. I really liked how Alice Oseman gave a fresh perspective on young adult life and made the characters feel like people and not just mindless, ignorant teenagers. at first, Frances' whole obsession with the podcast Universe City was quite tedious and seemed irrelevant, but made more sense later on in the book. overall, I definitely recommend any book written by Alice Oseman :)
