My Name Is Barbra by Barbra Streisand

1.0

Not for your average reader!! I wouldn’t have considered myself a Barbra Streisand fan before I started this memoir, I heard of her of course but I didn’t know really anything about her besides her nose and Funny Girl. I went into this pretty blind so blind I didn’t realize it’s over 1000 pages until I was a chapter in. Also you should be aware I hate musicals absolutely hate them but I love a memoir, so I wanted to learn about Barbra who she is, what she’s done with her life so far, and anything else she was willing to share. And she shared, some might say over shared, because there is absolutely not a single reason for this book to be that long. I would have probably enjoyed this book if it was half the size or shorter. I mean it was so long and dragged out, and most of the material was so so so boring and trivial. She also used this book to air out her personal grievances and what she inferred as slights from others. I am leaving this book firmly in the not a fan category and not just because the book was bad and long but because I don’t think I like Barbra Streisand. Her personality rubbed me the wrong way, and she seemed very controlling, very haughty, and selfish. However I will say I simultaneously read the book and listened to the audiobook. The audiobook is you know 48 hrs long but there are some extra ad libs that the book doesn’t have and the singing was definitely a nice touch but the book has pictures. The one star is for the dogs.
