What a wild ride! I’m still processing! I was hooked from the start. This is a really creative and dark take on the Goose Girl fairytale. And wow I did not expect it to go where it did! So many twists and turns and I just went with it. I was glad to be surprised and nervous and not sure if there would be a “happy ending” let alone one where the most the main characters survived. While there was magic, I kind of wish there was more. It just feels limited in here, and I wanted more characters using magic. I would also say I didn’t feel there was an overarching theme or message, which they could’ve been and in some books it can be heavy handed or cheesy. I kind of missed it in here though. I think Cordelia’s character could’ve experienced a little more growth and had greater exploration of her own agency and potential sooner. Overall, a banger of a book! Scratched that itch for a darker, serious, feminist fairytale retelling.
