Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Well I enjoyed this more than I was expecting to. It was definitely angstier than I had anticipated, but even though it didn't have the fairytale ending, it was happy enough to satisfy my post-Shuggie Bain craving.

I feel like it's been a while since I've read this kind of - idek what this genre is called - contemporary YA(?), but it felt very well done. Super vivid descriptions etc. and really captured how all-encompassing things can seem that later lose that sharpness. It made me feel old though - first time that reading something like this felt like it required imagination to identify with the characters because of the age gap. Caught me by surprise!
