The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
5.0

5/5 i am a changed woman after reading this book.

kafka wrote the original ‘would you still love me if i was a worm?’ here :,) i read somewhere that this story is not about an insect (obvi) but about the author’s repressed homosexuality and hatred of the capitalist system. keeping those themes in mind reading this i am mf emotional. bitch when he crawls under the sofa and covers himself w a tablecloth because he recognises that his family see him as disgusting i- SOBBING i will never be the same. throughout this entire story gregor never once describes himself as ugly or scary or horrible, he understands his identity and describes it plainly. nobody else could see him without the preconceived notions of ugliness and threat. when he crawled out of his room slowly covered in dust and little threads and junk and injury and neglect bc even after everything he just loved his sister and her violin, PLEASE i am broken.

one of the best things i’ve ever read i’m begging you to read this book and treat the ‘scary’ little bug you find in your room with compassion, reach for the cup and paper not the flipflop.
