Death by Silver by Amy Griswold, Melissa Scott

4.0

Fairly good detective story set in an alternate Victorian London where magic is real (and is called metaphysics). The romance between the two MCs was realistic and credible. I could have done without the Victorian "morals" and the very painful flashbacks to past boarding-school bullying, abuse and torment, but I suppose some moral quandaries and bonding experiences might not have been the same without them. Basically, this was the Victorian society of our world in all its rotten glory, with the addition of magic spells.
