Hedgewitch by Skye McKenna

4.0

Such a fun children's book! It started off a bit bleak, but once our main character escapes the drab boarding school and moves to live with her aunt, who happens to be the hedge witch guarding the border between England and the Land of Fair, I quickly became engrossed in the storey. It's whimsical, funny, wholesome and magical. I have a weak spot for the found family trope and it was well executed in this book, really enjoyed the friendships she built with her fellow witches and some talking animals. I also appreciated that the typical 'mean' characters got some backstory, but plenty still to explore in the next books! Immediately moving on to the next one.
