Maybe it was my mood, but I was completely not blown away by this. I was annoyed by the art and everything being so dark and crowded that I could barely decipher what was what. The characters more or less fell flat for me.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of early 90s comics? I was wondering why the story and the art felt so "off" to me when I came to the last half a dozen pages that explained about AIDS and safe sex (if using a banana to demonstrate how to put on a condom doesn't scream 90s, I'm not sure what does). Ah...LIGHTBULB!. The style made so much more sense when I realized that this was from 1993. This also made more sense as to why Tori Amos did the introduction.

The one thing I did really enjoy was the absolutely adorable title character - Death herself. She is such an enjoyable character that I would have continued the series had I not read the reviews of the other volume not including much of her at all.
