I had sort of mixed feelings about this one. First of all, I thought the premise was really good—a matter-of-fact actuary fake-dating a fly-by-the-seat-if-her-pants astrology influencer. Brilliant. And, of course, the more time they spent with each other the closer they became. The relationship developing between the two leads was compelling enough. And, while I found Darcy to be somewhat of a flat character, Elle was really fun.

Just a few issues from my perspective…First, I don’t really feel like there was a very big conflict to overcome for the characters throughout the story. There were some family issues but the disagreements that occurred seemed overblown and unnecessary.

But the biggest issue for me was that there is a massive tone shift in the last 20% of the novel when the couple has a big fight because Darcy has trust issues and Elle is a drama queen. I mean, I thought the writing was great at this point and I really felt the rawness of the emotion. So I was okay with it. But the author spent a ton of time focusing on the rift only to wrap it up in a single conversation. It felt kinda like whiplash. The sudden happy ending just wasn’t believable, based on how severe the disagreement was made out to be.

Despite the disappointing conclusion, it was enjoyable enough. I know this is part of a series, so I’d still consider continuing on to find out where the story goes from here.
