The Only Street in Paris: Life on the Rue Des Martyrs
by Elaine Sciolino
I recently stayed in Montmartre and used this book before I left as a guide book for the street I was preparing to know, and once I returned as a reverie of a street to which I wanted to return.
I like Elaine Sciolino. I've read some of her other works about France and I like her ability to soften the hardest of Parisian hearts. She's curious, compassionate, and confident and her narrative of the self-possessed shop owners and mysterious neighbors gives an inviting look at daily life along a colorful street.
