Long Bright River completely blew me away. It’s part mystery, part family drama, and totally addictive from start to finish. The story follows Mickey, a cop searching for her missing sister, Kacey, who’s caught in the grip of addiction. As Mickey tries to find her, she’s also dealing with a series of murders happening in her neighborhood—and it all gets very personal, very fast.
The way Liz Moore writes is so real and grounded. The characters feel like actual people—flawed, messy, and complicated. The relationship between the two sisters is heartbreaking and raw, and the backdrop of the opioid crisis gives the story even more weight. It never feels preachy though—just honest and emotional.
I loved the way the book flipped between past and present, slowly revealing all the history between the characters. It kept me hooked the whole way through. If you like crime stories with depth and feeling, this one’s a must-read. Smart, intense, and seriously hard to put down.
