Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Oh, Juliette who has been betrayed by everyone she loves and sentenced to imprisonment. What must it be like- unable to touch anyone for fear of killing them? Knowing that despite how many people are around you, you're always alone.

When she sees a blast from her past who is unaware of her true identity and forced to become a weapon against her wishes, she finds herself becoming the person she always strived not to be a monster capable of terrible things all for the sake of the ones she loves.

The plotline was super engaging and I feel like I can honestly connect with Alex, Warner, and even Kenji. Their banter was reflective of their situation and fluctuated between serious, comedic, and heartfelt.

My peeve with this book is the constant repetition, hearing the same words over and over was sightly annoying and did absolutely nothing to enhance the story for me in any way. I suppose reading it is one thing and your eyes can glaze them over but hearing it is quite another story. I thought this would have been with only certain scenes but the repetition seems to be a constant throughout the novel and a style of the writer.

This is not to say anything about the talent of the narrator as I felt she was a superb fit and a great voice for the female lead. There was a soothing component to her voice that made listening to this such a breeze.

Despite my slight annoyance I am going to hang in there with the series as I believe it has potential.
