The Striker by Ana Huang
3.0

Honestly, this kinda hurts to say, not my favorite Ana Huang, not by a long shot.

Let me start off by saying, Asher was never the character that I was most interested in, but I was intrigued by who he was, especially from his little pop ups in the Twisted series and in Sloane’s book. But it’s Ana Huang and I have really enjoyed her previous books, they’re like a non Scottish version of Samantha Young books— spicy, yet comforting.

That being said, I was bored out of my mind for large chunks of this book. The kindle version was rough 540 pages and that was way tooooooo long for as 1 dimensional as these characters were. Asher is disgustingly rich and a beloved football (soccer) player who since changing teams is facing harassment from his dad (which seriously, your kid switches teams and you’re pouting??) his new team captain, and fans, it all just felt unrealistic, but what do I know, I’m not a sports fan. So Asher’s problems feel a little trivial, and then there is Scarlett, whose a ballerina turned ballet teacher from a previous injury, of course she has to be the sibling of Asher’s team captain and nemesis but even though they are supposed to be like enemies to lovers, it’s like insta love, Asher’s nice to her and she’s like “I’m obsessed”. Nothing feels like a real intense problem, everything is solved in a matter of pages, the angst isn’t there, instead it’s just blah.

Without going on and on about the nothing plot, this book was just not fulfilling, I was at least hoping that with 540 pages I’d get some spicy spice but all I got were like 2 half page scenes THATS IT, I’m a depraved woman Ana Huang I need more, like the dumpster I live in, I want trash and you gave me NOTHING.
