3.0

I really debated on whether this felt like 2.5 or 3.5 stars, so I averaged it out. This book ranges from being boring and predictable; to gripping, horrifying, and full of political intrigue. I like the backstory we get, I find the color caste system interesting and I love a good rebellion arc. However, there are plot points that don't seem necessary and quite a few that feel rushed or underdeveloped. I wish there was more explanation for the whole "arena," Hunger Games like element in this book. It really went from like 70-1,000,000 in the action without enough explanation or motivation from the characters. And this made the parts that felt slow or tedious even more frustrating to get through.

I defiantly favored the first and last third of this book. I will definitely continue the series, I am just a little let down by the hype. So far the best part is the dirty politics and espionage.
