The Monkey Wrench Gang by Edward Abbey

4.0

This was a great book of "activism" (sabotage), comraderie, and romance (on second thought, more sexual situations than romantic ones, nonetheless entertaining). Although I enjoyed the book, I noticed some large ironies as well, such as profuse littering as well as the destruction of fragile desert soils from vehicles, not to mention the violence. Although incredibly entertaining, I don't believe the book advanced the proper attitude and reverence for the land, just mindless destruction. However, the author makes a point that legal battles and protests are often ineffectual against the system.
