Immersive from start to finish. The Jasmine Throne constructs a world around the plot with such a deft hand you feel at home in the world from page one. The various character motivations, flaws, and arcs are all so beautifully well thought out, making for compelling character stories with fully individual personalities, never losing their identities in the shuffle of POV shifts. It makes for wonderfully believable dialogue, and compelling momentum through the story when it might otherwise feel like the plot is lagging behind.

The story of revolution in a country against cruel oppressor is explored through the many avenues of rebellion, violent, cunning, and hopeful all vying for dominance as they barrel towards a hope for a country free of its colonizing overlords.

A magical disease rots through the land, the source uncertain and used as a point of divine providence from either side.

A budding romance is dashed and flourishes in turns. Compromises are made, ultimatums refused, and consequences follow. The lines between family loyalty and morality are drawn. And hope kindles even in the ashes of a pyre.
