These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch
3.0

This was a hard book to get into. Like very very slow for me. From the start the worldbuilding is obviously very well thought out with a lot of history and an expansive world for the story, but what made it so slow for me was the characters. I didn't feel very attached to them, hell I didn't really like them at first (mainly Lu). Vex and Ben were a lot easier to like fro the start, but I didn't enjoy them as much until like halfway through the book.

Another thing the first half of the book felt like it was lacking was action. This book follows raiders and rebels and it's a great premise but the first half was surprisingly not that action-packed. Honestly I was expecting a lot more fighting and danger and high stakes for the beginning, but instead we get a lot of solving puzzles in Lu's head.

The second half of the book saved it all for me. There's more tension between Lu and Vex (I SHIP IT) and there's a lot more action, tragic backstories revealed, and high stakes. Also Ben is a cinnamon roll and I just wanna give the guy a big hug.
