Mrs. Nash's Ashes by Sarah Adler

adventurous emotional funny hopeful inspiring lighthearted reflective medium-paced

5.0

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book so much, a perfect grumpy/sunshine romance mix and poignant retelling of love between two women from the 40s-50s 💕

Millicent is our quirky sunshine optimist and she has no filter, Hollis is our “selfish grumpy pessimist” that gets roped into her adventure 😄

Millie is on a mission to reunite her elderly best friend Mrs. Rose Nash’s ashes with the love of her life, Elsie. Believing Elsie perished in the Korean War, Mrs. Nash never got to see her again. Likewise, Elsie’s letters to Rose came returned. Millie discovered Elsie was not dead and booked the first flight out to Florida with Mrs. Nash’s ashes in tow.

Computer issues ground all flights and Millie makes a connection with Hollis, whom she recognizes as her ex-boyfriend’s acquaintance. Millie and reluctant Hollis embark on a cross country road trip with additional unplanned stops where their attraction sparks and brings them closer together.

I’m a sucker for the grumpy/sunshine trope and this was written so well, Millie was so lovable, witty, and with a heart of gold. Hollis was a great opposite, under a gruff exterior a true cinnamon roll and I love how they played off each other ❤️

The flashbacks to Rose and Elsie’s life together in the military was a huge tear jerker for me. Their love was so beautiful but unfortunately they were ahead of their time, both women had to move forward with the norm relationships accepted in those times, of course I cried like a baby so it’s a solid 5⭐️
