The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan

Did not finish book. Stopped at 33%.
Overall, this book just didn’t win me over. Here’s why:
  • The book didn’t even start off strong. I don’t know how else to put it. I found myself pushing through from the very beginning.
  • I think the characters introduced were supposed to be unlikable characters that you grow to love but there was just no way that was happening for me.
  • The book didn’t read well. I found the writing to choppy, short, and more in line with non fiction which isn’t a problem if the book was actually non fiction.
  • The premise was strong - the execution was poor. Quite frankly, I was bored and annoyed with the level of extremity to which this went to portray the message that mothers deal with a lot of shit.
  • Once I declared this one a DNF, my lovely friend @bookmarkedbymel told me how it ended and I’ll just say this: predictable ending which would have just solidified my decision to DNF.
