The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz

3.0

Diaz peppers this book with references to LOTR, comics, Dominican history, and stereotypes of Dominican manhood, which are all good as long as you are familiar with these things. There's a thread of magic realism to it as well but mostly, it's a tale of a messed up family and why they came to be that way. I liked it, just didn't love it.
