The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka

2.0

I really enjoyed this book at first but after a few chapters I had trouble motivating myself to finish it. I am fascinated with the history/time period of the stories within and I felt like I did learn about a portion of a culture I was previously unaware of but the author's writing style was flat. This collection reads more like a research paper than novel. I would have much preferred a focused story on 3-4 of the women and their lives instead of so broad of a telling. The story feels stretched too far there were too many characters and not enough detail. I found myself wanting to know more but was left waiting. Its like the author had 100 unfinished thoughts and just put them in anyway.
