“When one man knowingly kills another, they call it murder! When society causes the deaths of thousands, they shrug and call it a fact of life.”
Joe is really at the top of his game here. After finishing this book, it’s pretty clear that Joe can go toe-to-toe with any of the greatest fantasy writers of past and present. While I’ve loved many of his previous works, this book is simply on another level. Although this book doesn’t have as much action as others, it makes up for it with its snappy prose and the most rotten (yet loveable) set of characters. This book has the perfect balance of grit, love, honour, betrayal and everything else that a ‘good’ fantasy novel should have. Never has an author penned a more elegant and vivid description of the hacking of limbs and the bashing of skulls.
EASY 5/5
Bonus quote
“No corpses, no glory.”
