I was so conflicted on what to rate this book. Because there were some things in it that I didn’t like, but there were also things I absolutely loved. And the things I loved, I loved a lot. I was eating UP the romance the entire time, the childhood friends to strangers to lovers just hits a sweet spot. I also thought the magic system was very fun and unique, and I loved the complexity of some of the characters (I won’t go into which ones to avoid spoilers)
On occasion I took an issue with some of the other characterizations (once again, I won’t say which ones, no spoilers), and the way some things are resolved at the end left me feeling unsatisfied and with a bit of a metaphorical bad taste in my mouth.
That being said, none of that can change the fact that I had SO much fun reading this book. I devoured it. I’ve been in a reading slump for weeks before this, but I barely put this book down. So regardless of the problems I had with it and the things I didn’t enjoy about it, that speaks for itself.
My actual rating for this would be 3.5 stars, because it feels like a good balance between the fact that I did have problems with it and that I still enjoyed it despite them.
Overall, it’s a very fun book and I’m glad I read it, and I can’t thank it enough for getting me out of my reading slump
