A Killer Getaway by Sienna Sharpe
5.0
challenging emotional funny lighthearted tense fast-paced

I did go into this audiobook thinking it would it was going to be a funny story about a woman taking a month out of her life every year to escape the stress of the world, relax and lifeguard at a fancy resort and cut out a poisonous person (literally and kinda as a tribute, leaving her mark, making the world a better place). As far as serial killing goes, it seems pretty reasonable, especially after the tragedy that happened the first time she went to the Riovan Resort and the how toxic their "wellness" program is (and so crazy expensive!). That would have been an entertaining story in and of itself.

But it goes several steps further, rounding out Lily as a complex character with many sides, not just the killer one, but also the grief for her girlfriend, her tough childhood and mom as a role model. Plus it sends a good message about how toxic wellness programs can be, breaking people down the wrong way, all in pursuit of the impossible perfect figure/life. Add in the mysterious Daniel (the romance is pretty instant but still entertaining) and Lily's conundrum about whether she needs to kill him or possibly choose another path. It has a heartbreaking ending but still hope and I wish all the best for Lily, whatever she decides to do next!

This was a fun audiobook to listen to. The narrator,  Justis Bolding did an excellent job in bringing Lily and her many facets to life for her last visit to the Riovan Wellness Resort.  This was perfect for a summer beach read!
